The answer is YES IT PROBABLY IS! True Nutrition is in network with many major commercial health insurers in New Jersey. Depending on your plan, they may pay a portion or up to 100% of our fee. However, it’s not guaranteed that your particular plan will pay for the services that you need. So, it’s important that you call them before we meet to verify!

True Nutrition RD is in network with United Healthcare, Aetna, Horizon Blue Cross of Blue Shield, and Cigna (coming soon). We can provide an out-of-network Super Bill and we will accept payment at the time of service if we are not in network with your insurance.

How to find a nutritionist covered by insurance

In many cases, you CAN use insurance to pay for most or all of your visit. Again, there are some cases where your plan may not cover the service you’re receiving, or they may require you to share the cost.

SO IT’S IMPORTANT TO CALL YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY BEFORE YOUR FIRST MEETING WITH YOUR DIETITIAN.

Here is what you can do:

You can call your insurance company using the 800 number on the back of your card and ask to speak with a representative.

Ask this question:

Do I have nutritional counseling coverage on my insurance plan?

If the insurance company asks for a CPT code, please provide them with the following codes 97802 and 97803. If they say you do not have coverage, THEN ask them to check your coverage for 99401, 99402, 99403 and 99404
If you have coverage with these CPT codes, ask if you have coverage for PREVENTATIVE visits, and ask how many visits per year. If you have preventative coverage, your insurance company may not require you to share the cost. This is something that YOU NEED TO ASK WHEN YOU CALL.

Will my diagnosis be covered?

If the representative asks for a diagnosis code, please tell them the visit is coded as ICD 10 code Z71.3.
If they don’t accept Z71.3, then ask about Z72.4 to see if they will cover that code under your plan.
If you are overweight, obese, have pre-diabetes, diabetes, hypertension or high cholesterol, you many want to see what your coverage is for these diagnoses as well.
